Thanks for sharing this, Ed. Really love the video/audio addition -- adds some great personality to this type of post. I was never an alcoholic but I also don't drink anymore. Zero temptation to touch alcohol. Life is just better without booze. It seems that the process of life is about stripping away our vices so we can enjoy experiences in their most raw and unadulterated form.

“Addiction, like allergies, is so complex that we don't fully understand it.”

It’s such an important point. Because it’s so easy to fall in the trap of “it’s just one simple habit.” It’s not. I’ve been thinking about my phone consumption and others. And it’s not just grabbing your phone and using it. It’s also entertainment. It’s learning. You get inspired, you socialize. Honestly, it’s not surprising people fail at this because there is so much to deconstruct and rebuild.

It really is a mesh of habits and small thinking patterns layered on top of each other.
