I'll give you the following ideas, try to shuffle/reframe them, then what great idea(s) could you make out of them:
Compounded effect, what is it?
A boy who carried a piglet up the mountain every day (movie Holes)
Rome was not built in a day
Myth of Sisyphus, train your focus/awareness, grow your whole body strength, find spirituality
Avoid consumerism. Get is short for Forget. Give!
Marie Kondo: Mental hygiene for healthy Mental Strength
What is life? We wake up every day. Being intentional!
Three builders, one laying bricks, other building a wall, and last one building a cathedral
Best problem solving - Invert: give encouragement and positive thoughts to others, both you internal and external world may change in sync. Then feel your anxiety/depression dissolve.
Amen. When dueling was made illegal, bullshit went up exponentially. We became a lot less polite society. I’m not advocating for dueling… with pistols, but the Marquis de Queensbury will do the trick! Honor culture needs a revival.
Ed, I'm a huge fan of the sweet science. I grew up in the shadow of Vinny Paz's gym, the old fire station on the corner of Laurel Hill Ave and Laban Street, 2-3 blocks up from the Hartford Projects & Perry Middle School.
Absolutely grateful that I got to watch the sport at its apex: the heavyweight division with Ali, Foreman, Norton, Smokin' Joe, etc. and the middleweight division with the Marvelous One (my GOAT), Sugar Ray, Hearns, Duran, Arguello, Pryor, etc.
Excellent writing and observations- your street experience and wisdom translates well into other walks of life. As a lifelong professional in health care I can relate to much of your advice. Avoiding places where assholes hang out (committee meetings) and the response to metaphorical punches in the face, by being calm, assertive but not looking for a fight are equally important in the workplace as on the street. Simply put, there are many 'hoods in business and the corporate world as on the street. I gained the seeds of your wisdom from a working class grandfather, not afraid to get a punch in the face and a single mother who inherited his toughness. Respect.
Sarcasm huh? You must have never met someone like me who's fluent at it. Just kidding.
I've never been in a fight. Half because of my size, the other half because I know the people who start fights usually don't have as much to lose as me. I've been very close many times however so I'll consider myself lucky. I'd like to learn Muy Thai someday if I can rehab my neck enough.
This is a really good post! Thanks for all the info. I always wondered how easy/hard it would be to get knocked out in a street fight. Looking forward to more of your writing!
Great writings!

That's a gold standard right there

Haha I'm happy that you referenced the Marquis of Queensbury!

I'm with Thalia, I'm small and have never been in a fight. Visceral stuff, Ed. Some eise words as well.

Fabulous truth, told with a punch. More, please, Ed.
Thanks! Much appreciated!
